The countertop is from Lowes, it is a fake black granite look in matte finish. I want to add sheen to it so it looks more realistic.
I'm getting ready to do my counter tops and I'm going to use Shaw flooring in a grey for my walls and then light rose for the tops. Hoping this will lighten up my kitchen
pull a common color out of both
To help you make the choice, I would go to a paint store or big box store like Lowe's or Home Depot, and get several paint chips in colors you would consider. Then take them home and place each one on the countertop and look at how that color goes with your backsplash, the rest of the kitchen and the dining room. That way, you will come up with a color most pleasing to you that will also complement everything around it. It may take several trips and some time, but should be worth it in the long run. Happy decorating.
I wouldn't change a thing. It is the perfect balance of all of your colors.
I like they way they look. In the picture they blend well with the light color of the wall showing under the cabinets and the ceiling. If you really want to change them, I would go with a lighter color of grey that matches the gray you say is in the floor. I wouldn't go dark, you need some light color in the room to contrast all the dark that is already going on in the room.
If it were my kitchen I would stain those cabinets to lighten the feeling. Sand them down and apply a lighter stain so it isn't so dark in there. Some new hardware on the cabinet doors would help it feel like a new area.
The only change I would make to make it look visually larger would be to change your backsplash to a brighter neutral (butter cup or another softer yellow or a very rich cream) and paint the barstools to match....very inexpensive changes that can always be changed back. I still think the "bones" of your kitchen are perfect.
Whole lotta brown, needs a pop of color..... I like Fiddledd224 choice of soft yellow..... but since I love brights I would go lime greens, pale pumpkin....
I would get some samples of colors you like, and paint a big square on the wall to the left of where your microwave is for each color.
Don't know what type of countertop material your going with laminate, granite, quartz or recycled glass but I would get samples of the ones you like and stick them on the counter next to your color choices and see what speaks to you.... me I would like some aggregate with either glass or metallic flecks in it. Coppery color would be nice with all your browns.
