FIRST... the ceiling repair needs to be finished..no matter what color you use... the square will stick out like a sore thumb......
Why does it have to be white... I have seen the ceilings in kids rooms done in COLOR... like pink and white stripes, or painted lavender, sky blue, or yellow.... it is only paint...
(we painted all the ceilings in our house November Sky... a light blue gray)
First you might want to prime with Kilz primer; it will keep anything from bleeding through. Use white if you need the light or the effect of highth in the room. Otherwise I always paint the ceiling the same color as the walls.
Use a paint roller with a longer nap. Be sure to use drop cloths to avoid paint splatters. You can use a long handle in you roller so no ladder except for the corner paint trim work.
That is a terrible patch job! It needs to be corrected so it's smooth with the rest of the ceiling. Looks to me like the wrong thickness drywall was used. It's going to take quite a bit of drywall compound to smooth it out. Prime with a good stain blocking primer like Kilz or BIN. then you can paint with any color you choose. Good luck.
Is there a hole under that? Was it a vent at one time? If there is a hole, have a carpenter replace with ceiling/wall board and tape for a smooth finish, then paint and the unsightly ceiling should look better and blend in. You can paint the ceiling the same color as the walls. Do I see a Lavender color?
Yes .. bright white
