Try spraying with fabreeze and let fresh air in.
I hate to tell you this but washing everything is by far the best option. I used to have to wash absolutely everything after we went to visit some family members who had a smoker in the house. Nothing else removed the smell adequately enough. I was always careful to only take things that I could wash when I got back home. Before you put your clothes back into your closet be sure to wash it down with a good product that will remove both the stain as well as the odor of the smoke or it will be an effort of futility. I was told by one person to just air them out. But I could hang them outside for days which only caused fading and they would still smell when I brought them in.
you will end up with every thing you own smelling like cigs if you don’t wash your clothes. And the walls, and shampoo the carpet. Mop the Lino or hard woods. And scrub your cabinets. Yup clean every thing. My dads apartment...when he passed the land lord met us no deposit was placed, so nothing was really lost...but a pro cleaner company was called in.....and the land lord swore he would never again rent to a smoker.
do not use fabreeze....wash everything in white vinegar.....
You will end up having to clean everything, as others have suggested already. I use Tide Sport for my laundry, and it really does remove all kinds of odors from clothes in one wash. You may want to clean the car, too, because I am sure it reeks of smoke too. Good luck quitting, you can do it!
First and most important - congratulations on increasing your life expectancy. For making life healthier for you and those you love. Your lungs will heal in a few years. After washing your clothes, don't forget the ceilings, when we moved into a house of a smoker, we had to remove everything that was fabric or textile based. After removing the carpets and all window treatments, washed the walls and floors. we still had a smell, when we had the ceilings painted - ceilings that looked white, looked brown compared to the new ceiling white paint.
You'll be happier if you wash everything. But in the short term you can use febreeze or something else that's an odor eliminator
