Tried that and still got rotten contractors, And we are in Hamilton, ON, Canada
Hi Viva, I would start with everyone you know. Ask if they know a good contractor. If that doesn't work, find out what licenses and/or permits are required so that you know what questions to ask. Then either try your local phone book or try http://www.homeadvisor.com . They have all kinds of home professionals listed, but I'm not sure if they are in Canada or not. Wishing you the best.
Problem is many "good" contractors don't want to take partial jobs. They don't want the responsibility to guarantee part of a job which would be hard to do. If contractors are "hungry" they will take any job they can but the work may not be the best or up to par. If they have to pull a permit for certain work, that permit covers the whole job and not part of it.
