I highly recommend Loctite Powergrab all purpose construction adhesive. (Other brands of construction adhesive might also work, but I’ve had so much success w/ this specific brand that I don’t use the generics anymore. Sometimes it’s worth it to get the real deal. It’s not very expensive & comes in a screw off lid squeeze bottle style that is easier to use than the caulk & caulk gun style it, and other strong adhesives, usually comes in.)
There are all types of adhesives, but this one, by far, has been the best I’ve used for this type of job. It has the consistency of stiff cake frosting, which is great because it instantly grabs & holds the tile while it fully dries & sets over about 8 to 24 hours (depends on the humidity).
This should work SO well for the job you descrIbe!
As on edge, maybe use a contrast tile. Or stick back cracked tiles and use edge retainer or edge strip to support.
I had 1x1 square tiles in bath shower come loose, 10 or 12, I used Gorilla Glue and it sets with water and it has been water tight since I did this 4 or 5 months ago. I used the same glue in a different area of the shower a year ago and so far it has held. The 10 or 12 tiles were done on top of some mildew, too hard to clean it, and it has held strong so far. It is waterproof and it expands slightly to get in all crevices.
