Hi Joyce, I am a lucky woman. My husband does the vacuuming at our house. He usually cleans the vents with the vacuum cleaner. He puts on the brush attachment and runs it over the vents. He does the air returns and the bathroom exhaust fans the same way.

You can use a brush attachment on a vacuum cleaner or remove them and wash them in a laundry sink.

Well.if not vacuuming up there..an 2 inch paint brush will do well. Then either sweep or vacuum the floor.
If you've got a vacuum cleaner, then the easiest way is definitely to get to the vent with the brush attachment
