Do home repair kits for chips to sinks or tubs work well and look good

The front edge of my tub got chipped. Bought a kit but not sure if I should hire a professional instead .

we tried a kit on our bathroom sink first, and this has been the one project we are not happy with!! My husband is a meticulous handyman, but this project just did not come out great. the finish was dull, and has recently started to chip and yellow. I think this is one job that does not translate to a DIY
