Hey Mary, would love to help-is this a chair you're trying to repair?

There are probably several ways to remove the old lino; most involve some sort of scraper with a sharp edge, and lots of elbow grease. Try Utube, tons of people will have tricks to share. For the octagonal (ish) corner, you'd be best to make a template with newspaper/butcher's paper, and start your install of new material in that corner. It is usually best to start flooring in the toughest spot. Good luck.

If it's down good, not damaged, you can put flooring right over it. I would use thin cardboard to make a template for the corner. Paper is a little too flimsy.
