Water for irrigation is necessary in Las Vegas unless you want to switch over to a xeriscape landscape (desert plants adapted to high emperatures and little water, but will still need care such as occasional watering and weeding, and maybe pruning). If you don't mind paying a high water bill for irrigation, you can plant just about anything but will be watering continually. However, some Las Vegas communities have homeowners associations that have covenants governing how you can landscape your property, so be sure to check if your home is part of an HO association and if there are landscape restrictions. Las Vegas has made a concerted effort to get people to switch to xeriscape landscapes using desert landscaping and desert adapted plants.

go to your local nursery and see what they are selling so you know what to grow. Drive around your neighborhood for ideas on what you like and take a lot of photos to use as the basis for your garden.
