Usually, the risers (the part that support/are the face or front below the treads that you step on), are 7". If that is a height you are comfortable with, then you can add the depth (the front to back, not side to side) of the treads, which the standard is 11". The angle is then figured at 7/11 (Not the store!), which would be 32* (degrees).
If you have a framing square, you can actually save yourself the math/trig, and use that to determine it. This is a useful link, though, from a pro, who has made good, bad and much better stairs:
