The bags are a12 inches tall.
Our favorite container garden is the galvanized horse troughs/stock tanks... but the key is having enough depth for the plant you want to put in it
You can use any containers to plant in as long as there is drainage in the bottom. I have used window boxes for herbs and have good luck with them. Two to a box if they spread, three to a box for upright herbs. You have to size according to the mature plant size. I got really big ones for tomatoes, at least twenty to twenty four inches across and they did real well. I had two other pots the same size that I planted three pepper plants in one and six leaf lettuce in the other, I had lettuce all summer and early fall by not having the lettuce in anything but morning and evening sun. It didn't bolt until October! You can make planters out of a lot of things, I use trash cans for my potatoes! You can make all kinds of shaped planters out of wood. If your planters are heavy, use plywood and good casters (the kind with the metal base and rubber wheels) to make your own base so you can move them around. I do this for anything that makes me grunt too bad when I lift them. Things like carrots, green beans, corn, anything that it takes a lot of plants to have enough to feed everyone is hard to do in pots, you need too many, otherwise you can plant anything you want, even cucumbers and squash if you have somewhere for the vines to go up.
