I just read a post of this very thing. That homeowner stacked cinder blocks 2 high. Then he put 4 X 4's into the holes of the cinder blocks to hold them in place. He sanded and stained the 4 X 4's. It looked pretty nice.
As above, glue together for safety or left as is in case you change your mind; add cushions if desired, change configuration and add plants (weed block to hold potting soil. Blocks can be painted, tiled, etc
