I would just tear out the old surround and put a new one in (or have it installed) - see James' idea. Or, you could try painting it - there are special kits (http://www.domestiphobia.net/2013/02/05/how-to-make-your-nasty-yellow-fiberglass-tub-look-new-for-50/), but if it turns out poorly I imagine you would want to replace the shower surround anyway.
