Yes...there are lots of posts in search. But I and a friend have done this. Lightly Scuff your counter with sandpaper. Clean it well, apply 1-2 coats of kilz ..or primer in general. Apply one or two coats of paint. (yes we used leftover latex) then most importantly 2-3 coats of poly. She did hers in a granite effect,I just did mine in off white. Hers in the kitchen got replaced with new countertop, but her bathroom is still going strong after years of use. Kitchen,as with any countertop...use a cutting board. 🤗. You do not have to buy a special kit,but if you don’t have supplies on hand, maybeit is comparably priced.
There is a special paint made for painting laminate. Ask about it at the paint store.
Most big box stores sell kits just for this purpose. For under $100 you can make old laminate counter tops look like granite.
If they are in good shape, you can get a kit at Lowe's that is specially made to paint laminate counter tops. It is usually a base coat, a color to add texture and a finishing sealer. I have not done it but a friend did and was very happy with it. In the paint department.
Get a kit and follow the instructions. I did this on my mom's old laminate counter. It had a split where the two pieces joined and water had gotten in. I was able to repair that before refinishing the counter by sanding and filling. It looks much better and has held up after 5+ years. Also, the split repair has held up.
