I would go for lighter, brighter, but depends on wall coler, I think. Throw pillows on furniture could mix dark and lighter and go with one of the lighter colors for curtains.
I have dark furniture and dark walls. I have a light neutral colored area rug and drapes, that way I can esasily change out the whole look of the room with new throw pillows and a few new accent pieces around the room.
what colors exactly are your furniture
You can get light curtains with the heat block backings. i went to the goodwill and bought panels in every color, took them home and tried them all until I settled on one.
I would lighten up the place.... Unless you are going for the funeral parlor look...lol. Gray is very hot color and the new very neutral. A light gray should lighten and brighten things, and go with everything while staying neutral at the same time. That's my vote.
I would go cream color as gray though kind of neutral will date things rather soon. Also if you like cooler colors light blue or light green would work as well.
Light celery green is beautiful with dark floors and is versitile with other colors.
You can use a gray taupe
Get some paint chips from the hardware store. Bring them home - compare the colors and see. It also helps if you use a print and draw colors from that. See if you like an area rug with colors. Pick colors from that rug. Or a painting / print and draw you colors from that artwork. You have not mentioned your walls. Or lighting (natural and fixtures)in the room? Color will look different dependent on the lighting in the room. And what color it bounces off of. You have also not mentioned what type of room this is. A different mood may be wanted in a family room verses bedroom verse living room (formal or casual?). This all can interplay with color.
