Have you tried using a blow dryer and a plastic putty knife. This should soften the adhesive and the plastic shouldn't damage your hardwood. If not, try spraying some WD40 on there and wipe. You may have to do this a couple of times to get it all up.
Did you try using some vegetable oil or baby oil? Followed by Windex.
Have you tried using an oil of some sort , maybe olive or coconut ?
use your fingers and rub it with peanut butter and then wash it off with dawn detergent rinse well. this works for the dog too when they get into sticky mouse traps stuck on their fur. (true story)
Goo Gone is great.
WD40 to the rescue. Try it out on a small area of adhesive; spray on, wait a few minutes, take your fingers and rub around, you should feel the adhesive coming up/off, it may form into little balls; wipe with a soft clean cloth when all the sticky is removed. You may need to wipe the area down gently with wrung out cloth with hot detergent water to remove WD40 residue, be sure to dry with a soft cloth.
Goo Gone or WD40. Saturated paper towels over the adhesive. Let it sit for a while to soften the adhesive.
