I found I needed a good semi gloss paint on the wooden trim around my dishwasher (steam escapes and water and wood are not a good combo).
Be extra sure there is no leak then you could add a baseboard molding.
I had this happen on one of my upper cabinets. I had my coffee maker under it and during the course of brewing, it let a lot of steam escape and thus loosened the film on the cabinet. I just hung a cute coffee themed picture(s) where the damage was. Since it appears that your issue is a bottom cabinet, that may not be a solution for you. You could just go to Home Depot or Lowes and get the film to recover it. They also sell very thin panels that you can get to match the cabinet finish. These are used for end caps on cabinet sides that are exposed like yours. Another suggestion is to use that area as a message center and paint it with chalk or magnetic paint after you have removed the damaged film.
Hi, moisture is getting in from somewhere. Is that an outside door? Consider adding additional weatherstripping on the doorframe. Wherever the moisture is getting in, you need to find the problem and not mask it. Once the moisture issue is corrected, you can lighten the wood with a wood lightening product sold at most hardware stores or on-line. Good luck.
I agree with Bijous. There is moisture for sure - and it is possible that there is mold from the photo. You need to find the cause of this. It is not just something to cover with paint. It needs to be addressed as mold is a serious health concern. I wish you luck.
