How to paint a slate floor

Thank you for the answer ;But what I want to do is paint a colour over the gray slate;my front entrance is very small and I find the dark gray slate makes it look dark and small which makes the rest of the front hallway boring.Any help or suggestions is welcome Thank you.P.S there is one exception no carpet.Thanks

Front hallway approximately 4/4 b1/2 feet so very small front entrance leads to main hallway so the slate makes it look very dark thus the idea for painting the slate to brighten up that area.Thank you for all of your help and suggestions
