Here is an article that might help - https://www.thesleepshop.com/blog/use-your-king-mattress-with-queen-headboard/
Two pieces of plywood laid parallel to your headboard an obviously trimmed to size. One full sheet and one trimmed. Parallel because there is less chance of shifting and enabling a dip in the center of your bed. Use some convenient strapping to screw them together. staple on an old sheet (nothing silky) to make it less obtrusive and to avoid splinters.
Think about whether the seam should be near the head or the foot. If your kids jump on the bed a lot, etc etc
Carolynbl1, I’m trying to be sure of what you are asking. You have a king size mattress you want to put on top of a green size bed frame. If this is correct, see if the metal frame can slide out to the width of the mattress. If it come to the very end of the frame, put a concrete block under each corner, with the weight resting from the corner and under more of the frame. Also put a block under the center of each side of the frame. Because of the heavier weight of the larger mattress, you might also want to add wood 1”x3-4” slats to the frame, running across the width. One slat per every two feet resting on the frame will keep the mattress supported and level. This method has been used by homemakers ever since king mattresses became popular. Best wishes. ☺️
Build a wooden platform and get rid of the bed frame. Then we built a headboard to match.
Depending on the existing queen frame, you could just cut plywood to size (you will need two pieces of 3/4 inch plywood and cut -- or have them cut to size). Sand the edges of the plywood and slightly round the edges so that you don't scrape your hands when making the bed. I would seal it with water-based varnish, then screw it onto the queen frame (you will probably need to use bolts to screw it down).
Once the frame fits the mattress, the headboard will be too small. I have two suggestions. One, place self-stick mirrors down both sides of the headboard. Two, hang a valance and sheers over and down the outside edges of the mirror-widened headboard. You could staple the valance, which could be a gathered bow, and the sheers to the wall, and even extend the sheers a foot or two out from the wall to give a canopy effect. If this is too girly, use wood planks or thicker drapes. ☺️
One never knows.
Nonetheless, glad you like the idea. I love inexpensive and Easy.
