I recommend using a Marine Grade Vinyl since it sounds like it's exposed to the elements (sun and rain). Marine Vinyl won't fade for years unlike a basic vinyl.
I would use something heavier than that, this stuff is flexible without flapping in the wind noisely.... http://www.joann.com/disco-vinyl-fabric-clear/1532449.html comes in 12 gauge too at bottom of page.... 54" wide
I think you would be amazed how well clear Contact paper works. Make the Contact paper double thick by placing two strips back to back. Also seal all the seams with silicone caulk. ☺️
Thanks everyone for all the great input! I purchased and used a 8 gauge shower curtain that came with hooks. Was able to simply hook it all around with no fuss. Since its an open shelving unit it had ample grids on top to hold it in place. It looks fab... and the gauge is not too heavy or lightweight. Merely drapes straight down. Thanks again fellow DIYers!
