the things I used daily are stored closest to my reach...usually the bottom shelf of the hanging cabinets, top drawer, for silverware. Etc. seasonal items like canners an kettles live on a basement shelf. Keep like items together.
In my kitchen, I group things where I expect to use them or where I can easily put them when emptying the dishwasher. I use drawers for silverware and utensils, magnetic knife storage on wall, cookware, bakeware, metal & glass lids and cooking utensils in doors and drawers near the stove and microwave. Top shelves of upper cabinets are reserved for duplicates or little used items, turnaround shelves hold paper plates, plastic containers and colanders; plastic lids in a deep drawer. Spices live in a holder on a door and I have a tall pantry cabinet with shelves and pull out drawers for food storage.

If you find that you have a lot of spices, but only commonly use a few; use a plastic caddy to keep the ones you most commonly use in reach.
Everything has a logical place, see if these links help.

Cabinets under the sink use round expandable curtain rods. Place in vertical position for pot covers and cookie tins. Use lazy susan's for cups, seasonings etc. In upper cabinets, for odds and ends, use plastic tubs from the $1store.
Just love the plastic containers from the dollar stores, they come in a good variety, with and without lids. Clear ones work best for immediate identiry of whats in them.
