Sure, you'll need to rough them up a bit with sandpaper...probably a fine grit to give the doorknob some "tooth" for the paint to adhere to. You might want to spray them white first then again with a couple of coats of the color of your choice so you're starting with a pure base color. Good luck! Why don't you take a pic of before and after and post here if you do it successfully....or not! LOL!
Yes, they can easily be painted. Most videos show them taken off the doors to paint. I'm too lazy for that, I just mask everything really well, including laying down a floor cloth, and paint them right on the door.

Sure, why not? Use a little sandpaper to rub out the ruff edges. Remove the hardware, and spray them.
Thanks so much!!!! It might be time consuming but it will definitely save money.
Thank you, Janice. We just moved into a house where all the door knobs don't match so without spending too much money I thought I'd try this first. I'll post photos if they look decent. lol
Great!!! Thank you so much!!
Yes. They make spray paint for metallic surfaces that you can buy. If the door knobs are in decent condition, I'd keep them - especially if they have character.
I just did 22 door knobs in my House. I took them off, spray painted them with Rustoleum automotive primer found at Lowe’s by the spray paint, then put three coats of Satin Nickel spray paint on them. They look great. One had a few bubbles on it so I sanded it a little and the paint did not come off so I’m assuming they should look good for some time to come. I advise taking them off and spray painting them outside or you will have a fine mist of spray paint everywhere. I also taped around the hinges and then taped newspaper all the way around to protect the walls and painted the hinges too so it all matches. Good bye gold knobs.
