Hi Karen,
I've had oil heating and gas and I've found that if I had a choice I'd choose gas. It burns cleaner, which means less dust, you don't have to wait for a delivery, no fear of running low on oil. No having to replace oil burner or have it serviced so that saves money.
After an entire apartment building exploded in Portland Oregon I would never have gas. Personal opinion.
Did you have natural gas or propane? Would it matter? I have propane already hooked up to my house, but don't have access to natural gas. Sounds like there are great advantages to gas vs. oil. Thanks for answering my question!
Oil heat is smelly, dirty, costly, and definitely needs to be serviced every year for optimal performance. Gas is cleaner, burns better and efficiently. Stay with the propane. If you ever get natural gas much easier to convert from propane.
We converted to natural gas about four years ago. I have never regretted it. I now have an energy efficient furnace that is easily maintained. I feel better about its effect on the environment, also.
The advantage of gas over oil is that gas is always there. You do not have to get a tank refilled. There are companies that will retro-fit your furnace with a gas burner,
I used to have oil and it was the best move to have gas put in. Along with the other benefits to gas, you don't have to worry about the tank rotting out. So you don't have to worry about running out of propane, your other appliances can be converted to gas without much problem.
thanks for letting me know!
oooooooohh... that's good to consider! I hadn't thought about that!
