I would love tips for a backyard container garden.

It's amazing what wildlife put us through. I'd first remove Groundhog because it's also doing other naughty things, even if you find protection for your container. Same with squirrels, you remove them another will take it's place(sorry). Nasty tasting things will help deter them. Plant some type of spicy pepper plant or marigolds help. I use kabob sticks placed pointy side out at varying heights in soil (I painted mine green to blend in). Hope this helps.

i know squirrels can eat thru almost anything. they ate thru wiring on my patio lights, my plant covers for winter, seat cushions... I don't know if chicken wire would work, but I would try that first and move to a heavier gage wire if it doesn't work. those little pests. As far as the hog, you could be out of luck. I hope you find something that works!

For squirrels I use cayenne pepper powder sprinkled on the soil as well as shredded Irish Spring bar soap. If they are real persistent, use a mouse trap baited with peanut butter, it is too big to trap him, but the snap scares the bejesus out of them and they stay away for a while. You may need to invest in some fencing for the ground hog, I would say about two feet high, you could make panels with 1x1's or 1x2's and staple chicken wire to the openings. If you leave the lower ends longer by about six inches you could sink them in the soil. Make them into manageable sections and you could remove them when you need to do things in the raised garden. You would need to have panels. I had a short chicken wire fence around a garden once and a ground hog just used his weight to bend down the wire to get into the garden. A neighbor saw it happen and started putting veggie scraps away from the garden and I never had another problem with them. I had some great neighbors, needless to say, I let them have all the betties they wanted in the garden after that very good thing they did for me! I hope this helps you!

I made chicken wire cages about 36" high for my tomatoes. I used scrap 2 X 6 to make a box and then attached 36" 1 x 2 pine boards in each corner. Painted with leftover paint. Then, wrapped with chicken wire and cut off excess wire covering the 2 X 6. I had no problems with rabbits, squirrels, etc. You could also make a cover if needed.
