First you need to decide where you want to place the shed and the size you want. Next step would to dig a foundation or if you already have a slab built you need those measurements to be able to plan the amount of lumber you'll need. Also, decide what type of entry you will want and if you want any windows in it. You can research pricing of already built sheds to get an idea of what a shed the size you want might cost. It will be less to build if you have the tools and the knowledge of construction. You might also check with a handyman type person and they could probably give you a "ballpark" figure, then add on about another 1/3! Good luck!

first you need to see if you need a building permit

What type of foundation does your city require? After you have the permit question sorted you can decide size and style. Will you purchase lumber and build from foundation up or buy a kit? Big box hardware stores and membership stores such as Costco sell kits. Pieces are precut and assembly is like putting together a big puzzle. You can also find plans that include a materials list. If you own the tools and are handy cutting lumber this is the most cost effective route. One example here of video available on youtube Good luck! https://youtu.be/Z00berTW5hc
