Yes, you can. It must be very clean before you start. I would use paint for floors with several light coats, at least until none of the original shows! Then be sure to seal with a non-yellowing sealer. Be sure to seal carefully in traffic areas. Did this some years ago in a tiny bathroom which was pretty easy as no appliances to move! Lasted pretty well; there were only two of us at the time.
True linoleum -- not vinyl or laminate -- is made with linseed oil. You will need to paint it with an oil paint and use an oil based sealer. Good luck.

You will need to clean well and the put a couple coats of high adhesive primer. Let primer dry overnight and the add one coat of paint, dry overnight & then recoat. You were ok need to apply polyurethane to seal it. Make sure not To walk on it until you’re done & poly has had the req’d time to dry as recommended.
