Also state what kind of sun or shade the area gets.

Depending on your Planting Zone, Azaleas would do well on the North side of your home and they come in a variety of colors - Encore azaleas bloom twice a year. Most shade-loving plants would do well: Astilbe, Impatiens, etc.

Go to your local nursery and talk to them. 2 foot wide isn't much for shrubs. You may want to make it another foot wider. And evergreens look nice year round. See what the nursery says. Good luck and happy gardening.
