Can I use pencil sharpenings in my compost pile?

I grow a lot of old fashioned flowers and some tomatoes for my family and I don't want to use the pencil sharpenings if they would harm the plants. Thank you for your help.

Hello Carlene ! Lead pencils aren’t actually made of lead. They are made of graphite, which is non-toxic. So between the woid shavings and the graphite, neither will do any harm to your compost pile — unless you’re adding tons and tons of it, which obviously is not happening. Good luck!

I personally would not do it because there are all sorts of chemicals used in processing something like a pencil. But that's me.
Probably would not hurt, wood is wood, the graphite a chemical compound that I would look up and go from there.
Pencils contain lead.... when in doubt..... DON'T
That would be adding lead to your soil, its a no!
Pencils are made of wood and graphite basically, neither would pose a problem to gardening, but I would not use an excess amount of the shavings. Just to mention, some pencils I have come across have a plastic wrapping on them with messages or advertisements, I would be wary of these in the garden.
