You can fill the splits. If your wood door is stained, use an exterior wood putty. Mix per directions and add a small amount of wood stain to the putty. Force into splits, level as much as possible with a putty knife and let dry. Sand level and restain entire door with a polyurethane that has stain in it. If the stain is coming out lighter on the repairs, you may need to apply a slightly darker stain to the repairs. If the door is painted, you can use an exterior spackle and fill. Again force into splits, sand then paint entire door. The door will be like new again. Good luck.
Bondo wood filler is excellent. It’s a two-part process, but when you’re done it’s stainable and lasts better than some of the quick-y repair products.
I would gently sand the door, vacuum well, and damp wipe with a microfiber towel to get up all grit. Wood-fill, letting it dry completely.
Depending on the darkness of the door, you might want to prestain just your repair spots lightly before staining the whole door.
Some tv carpenters suggest damp-wiping the wood before applying stain.
Try filling in the cracks with epoxy or wood filler. Sand and paint.
You can fill in with wood putty and stain.
Fill with a wood filler, sand, prime and then paint with final coat.
