Why do you believe the cabinets need to be cut? More info please. We have installed several in 3 different homes and never had to cut the cabinets. I understand yours may be different than ours, that's why I'd like to know more about the situation.

If you do, remove the cabinet doors, shorten the cabinets and use the space to install a wine rack or bookshelf or other storage/display area.

I waited 30 years to get my microwave placed above my stove. I now wish I would have taken a different option. It is dangerous to reach over hot pots to use the microwave and it is difficult for short people to use effectively. Also, for people with arthritis or balance issues, the eye-level microwave becomes a dangerous and difficult appliance to use.

If you continue with your plan, you will have to determine the dimensions of your microwave and cabinet. If your microwave will fit into the width of your cabinet, I suggest removing the doors, cutting the bottom shelf of the cabinet out and either leave it out completely or move it up so you have room enough to install your microwave. Cut your door down to size for your new cabinet and you are ready to go. I suggest you get a microwave with a range hood (fan) on the bottom. good luck.

Don't cut anything until you read the installation instructions. Like the first commenter I have installed several over the range microwave ovens. In every case you needs the bottom of the cabinet to put bolts through for support.

You will also need electricity run to that area. Will that also be an issue?

Lina presents a valid point that I have thought about for quite awhile, and for her reasons I have not put the microwave above the range. Even to heat a cup of coffee or tea in an eye level microwave can cause serious burns if bumped when removing the hot water. I like mine of the counter top.

    To me, safety first.

If you have room, those new drawer microwaves are the best! Not a micro put in a drawer, but the whole drawer is the microwave!
