You could try using a wooden closet pole. They are made to take lots of weight. Get some pretty screw in finials for the ends and you might need a support in the middle if it is a long span.

To be honest, that's probably something you're not going to find very cheap. Are you insistent on finding a Travis rod or would you be willing to open and close your drapes by pushing and pulling? Have you tried checking some second hand stores?
Good sturdy metal rods are expensive and will not sag, but they last a life time. I purchased mine through Sears. I'll bet if you go on a website that sells stuff you will probably find some one who still has the old fashioned type rod with the draw string made especially for pleated drapes.
Actually I have two heavy duty wooden rods on my back porch just now! (coincidence) a rod like that would be sufficient and not too costly. Check out Home Depot or Lowes.
JCPenney has a great selection. You can also hang long lengths of PVC pipe - it comes in so many sizes and the home improvement stores will cut it to the correct length,
