Bleach and water or vinegar and water
Powerwashing with commercial deck cleaners have worked for our decks and boat dock.
use a really strong solution of bio laundry powder and hot water brush it on and leave it if it’s really bad repeat if it dont rain hose it after a few days
(Best for the environment)
The other main type of deck cleaning chemical uses sodium percarbonate. This comes as a white powder which is dissolved in warm water immediately before use, releasing hydrogen peroxide and eventually oxygen.
Oxygen? Isn’t that the stuff we breathe? Indeed, but it’s also a dangerously reactive chemical. Fortunately, deck moulds and fungi are vulnerable to oxygen attack – and sodium percarbonate cleaners are good for badly discoloured, seriously slimy decks.
Environmentally, percarbonate is the most benign of the three chemical cleaners and is also gentle on wood. However, the fizzing solution is still best kept off desirable plants.
How to
Dissolve about 60g of percarbonate per litre of warm or hot water, then spray liberally on the deck. Leave it for an hour, by which time it will be inactive. The deck should then be scrubbed with a stiff broom and hosed off.
Need to know
The breakdown products are oxygen gas and sodium carbonate, which will do your soil nothing but good.
Powerwashing should do the trick.
i use bleach:water 1:3 and vinegar:water 2:3 that is just my comfort. I would think you could adjust it.
We’ve used several depending upon the deck conditions and building materials my deck has presented. There are several choices at big box hardware stores.
We have a tinted transparent sealed boat dock and two pressure treated decks with a solid stain. One deck has plastic rails, the plastic and the solid stained lumber seems to have more mildew - visually apparent > than the boat dock. It could be the color choice.
Maintence pressure washing yearly keeps things neat and tidy
Krud Kutter —Behr cleaner—and I’m constantly currently using a Scotts outdoor cleaner plus Oxi Clean product. Our deck has changed with replacement I am seeing more of a mildew issue. See product photo below. Its labeled SAFE for plants and grass an important factor for us choosing the cleaning product.
