I used to be an antique dealer. Can you post a photo of the front and any markings on the back? Also, include an inventory of all the pieces, and if there are any chips or any damage.
You would have to show a close up of the marks on the bottom for us to know what they are.... ie. company, date etc.
Can you look on the back and give us a name and any symbols that may be present. It is easy to look them up by name to see if they have any value.
replacements.com will have that info we can't give you a value on items
Replacements.com will give you a free estimate.
They are lovely. The answer really is on the back of the dishes. Post a picture of the markings on the back. Also include how many pieces and the condition. Do you have a full set with serving pieces?
the style of the cups indicates that these are not old. I too was an antique dealer and an avid collector of china. I find my copy of Koval's china marks to be an invaluable aid, in identifying china marks but would not be necessary for most households to own. However they may have a copy at your local library.
The best way to find the true “market value” is to search eBay for same or similar sets and see how much they’re selling for. Often we over value our own items when in fact there is no or low demand for it anymore.
thank you so much for your help!
The marking on the back indicates they are relatively new, as in probably the last 30 years. As "collection" items, I doubt they have much return value. "Worth" is relative to each person. I think they are very pretty, but not dishes that are sought after in any kind of market per se. They would make a lovely gift to be passed down in the family....having more sentimental value.
I agree with the comment above. China, especially in places where there are a lot of retirees and down-sizers, is a glut on the market. Replacements, or similar concerns can offer something, because as a general rule, people trying to complete old sets, or replace missing items will buy old china, but unless the china is really special, you might find that even that is just not worth it. A friend died and left me, among other things, a complete and vast collection of china and crystal (service for 16 in some cases). I tried everything to sell it without any luck, and since it was a pink floral pattern, so popular with grandmas everywhere, I couldn't even give it away. I offered it to my local historical society for one of the old residences, and even they had too much of it. I asked a friend if she was interested she said "are you kidding? I have stacks of pink floral china of my own"
I finally donated it to the local homeless shelter, and they were happy to have it.
I did a search on the pottery chop mark and found nothing, It doesn't look very old. Do you know where they were purchased and a name of the pattern, or show us a closeup of the pattern.
WRITE DOWN PATTERN COUNTRY OF ORIGIN AND MANUFACTURER'S NAME. SEARCH FOR SIMILAR DISHES ON EBAY, GOOGLE ETC. PRICE MAY BE LOWER IF PIECES MISSING OR HIGHER IF SERVING BOWLS, TEAPOT AND
OTHER ITEMS ARE INCLUDED eg. SUGAR BOWL, GRAVY DISH WITH TRAY.
