Used coffee grounds and other refuse from the kitchen such as potato peelings, carrot shavings, are good for your garden. Just dump them on the ground around your plants...sprinkle a little top soil over them to make them more attractive.
If you do this regularly, you will want to "turn them under" which means turning the soil over with a shovel to place them deeper below the surface.
