What's the best product to use to glue twigs on a modern mirror frame?

We are doing a very rustic remodel of our LR, DR and kitchen. I have a large modern wall mirror that I am thinking of glueing twigs to. I think this would be a great way to make it match the decor. What is the best product to use? I don't want to use hot glue. My husband wants to use finish nails but I don't like that idea. Any suggestions?

I'd try E-600 or E-6000 - I forget which it is but it comes in a grey tube... it is clear. I have found it works best and everything I've tried so far.

@Pat S It is E-6000 Pat and I use the silicone one that is clear. It holds great! Great suggestion :)

    Thank you Pat.

    Thanks, Jessica!
  • Elmers makes a product now call ProBond Advanced that would be great too. It's made to attach mixed materials and they mention both wood and glass on the packaging.

That's sounds great, Melissa! Do you know if it dries clear?

The one thing you should probably consider when gluing twigs on is that the glue must bond to the bare twig, not just the bark. The bark will dry out and then your twigs will potentially fall off.

@Lorraine I would strip the twigs where the glue will go, if it were me. Willow may take a lot longer for the bark to detach, but since it's an easy process to strip willow, it seems a good idea. Your table sounds like fun to me! You will remember to post an 'after' picture?

So did anyone decide for sure on the glue? I was considering doing this also. I have purchased so many glues for gluing different textures together and oh my. I was thinking that I also would use the E-6000. I have no experience with it and seashells yet though. And I have put it off for so long the glue is so old it is rubbery now..... lol. Don't wait years like I have... grin.

I can't recommend E6000 highly enough. I rebuild abused furniture and quite often need to replace and add embellishments. It works -- and lasts...

@Sharon Burns I don't remember who makes it but it comes in a large grey tube and says E-6000 on it....can't miss it. Sold everywhere. Home Depot has it in their paint section :) Love it for everything but you have to let it set overnight! It will last forever and endures the humidity here in FL!

Thanks - as I was thinking about adding the willow I never thought about stripping the bark - so will do that. I do have tiny, tiny nails that I might try using - but if the glue is easier I'll go with that. I took a half way in between picture - it was a sad little table that I grabbed at a garage sale the other day - so we will see. Will post the photos when done. Thanks again

Yes, that is the name. You can get it at WalMart in the craft area. It comes in a tube. It is best to let it cure overnight. It works like a charm...

Thanks so much everyone! I'm definitely going for E-6000! :-)
