Regular metal or PVC gutters are just fine - unless you get hail or extreme weather in your area - then I'd avoid PVC because it will crack. As for clogging, we had that problem until I placed gutter screens over the gutters. That fixed the clog problem. A flooded basement seems to be another problem, though. If you can tell on the inside where the water is seeping in, you should be able to seal the outside to prevent future flooding. Gutters just move water around, flooded basements are a whole different issue.

  • Jacque is right, those are expensive. There are programs in your area to help seniors on a budget. Call this guy, maybe he can help.

In the meantime, go to Home Depot or Lowe’s or your local Ace hardware and get downspout extenders for each of your downspouts.

They attach to the bottom of your downspout and take the water from 2 feet to 8 feet away from your house. They’re about $9 to $20 depending on how long they are. Ask for advice at the store.

When you get new gutters they can be transferred to the new.

Having our gutters cleaned stopped our basement from flooding!! We also have plastic down spout extenders from Walmart. Good luck! Have your gutters cleaned (Get referrals, and get a price for the job first.), before you have new gutters installed. Make sure the gutter cleaning guys have insurance, in case one falls on your property.
