Hi Stephie Kay, If you are going to use the driveway for decorative design, then skim coat is fine for preparing a clean blank surface. Sometimes you need to prime once or twice before doing the skimcoat, however. Here is video about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dO09piKqdo0
