You can get bags of top soil to use.
depends on the size of the area - but I'd put in top soil to bring it to level with the rest of the yard... and depending on where you live, and how much rain you get! you could purchase SOD for the area instead of trying to seed it -- you can buy 'grass' in 4 x 4 squares and cut into smaller pieces and use as 'plugs' ... just get a variety that is suitable for your area

that is 'sod' ... grass applied in a growing state is by 'plugs' ( about 2" square), or squares, and the area where it grows ( your lawn... is then 'sod'. Be sure you properly prepare the area before you install it ... https://www.yourgreenpal.com/blog/how-to-install-sod-in-just-5-easy-to-follow-steps or https://www.thisoldhouse.com/ideas/how-to-lay-sod
