Before you put dirt in pot, put a coffee filter in bottom. This will prevent dirt from coming out of bottom
A shingle sheet of newspaper will keep the dirt in until it forms a block of soil.Cheap, and biodegradable.
I use scraps of screen from repairing my screen doors.
