Any $ store degreaser works well. Wear eye protection, and follow the directions on the bottle, but I usually spray on, let sit a few minutes, and then wipe off with hot soapy water. I put the wire filter in the dishwasher. Do NOT put a charcoal filter in the DW.
If you don't have a DW, spray the filter with the degreaser, wait a few minutes, then soak the filter in boiling water. Rinse well.
Every time I clean my mirrors, they end up having tons of streaks and almost look worse than before I started. What could I use to clean them that won't leave streaks...

Mine is removable and I put it in the dishwasher. It comes out sparkling clean!
