Redoing the stairway question

I want to take the carpet off the stairway and put tile on the steps and wallpaper the riasers. There are 14 steps and a 44" X 39" landing. Can someone tell me the rough sq. ft?

Thanks Vern

    1. Measure the steps side to side and front to back, multiply those numbers; then multiply that number by 14 (steps). 2. Measure the risers side to side and top to bottom, multiply those numbers; then multiply that number by 14 (risers). 3. Multiply 44" x 39" for the area of your landing. 4. Add #1, #2 and #3 for your total area. If your steps and risers are not all the same side you will have to measure each separately and add all the numbers together.

I have to guess about the size of your stair treads, but it calculates to about 64 square feet of tile, if the 44" is the width of the treads. About 35 square feet of wallpaper if the risers are 8". Of course because you have to cut everything there may be a lot of waste so I would add 20%, or 77 square feet of tile and 42 square feet of wallpaper.

Lina is right with figuring the square footage. But, keep in mind there will be a lot of waste so make sure to order plenty, probably about 20% more. Also, make sure the tile you get is slip resistant, you don't want any falls.
