There are a few points where a toilet may leak, where the tank meets stool, and under the bowel. Your going to need all water out of tank and bowel to fix it. Once all water is out, lift the tank off and check the gasket...replace with same type. Next, there is a wax ring under the bowl some times 2 wax rings are stacked to get the seal tight. You are going to need to lift the toilet bowl up and out to see them , the tb generally has bolts securing it to the floor. Remove those.and the tb. Install new wax ring over the open sewer pipe. Replace toilet assembly.

now then, you may just need to adjust the float in the tank part. It raises the flapper when you flush. You can bend it a bit to regulate how much water goes into the toilet bowl.

ya’all could get a bit wet doing this. Have old towels and a basket ready for water control.

    ???

Is there a crack in the porcelain? If so, turn off the water to the toilet (valve under toilet bowl...a small faucet handle) flush out the water and use J.B. Weld. We did this to one of ours years ago and it is still viable.

Is the water running into the tank constantly? Then you need to put in a new flapper...this can be bought at the big box stores.

Is it seeping water out the bottom next to the floor? If so, you need to replace the wax seal under the toilet...not an easy task. Again turn off the water to the toilet. flush out the water and take up the toilet. You may need a strong helper to do this. There is usually water spilled so put down some big towels just in case. Have a place to set the toilet without running through the house with it...maybe a tarp just outside the bathroom door...put down some padding on this tarp to catch water and protect the toilet from chipping.

If all of this sounds daunting, call a plumber!!!! A couple of years ago, we paid $150 each to have 2 toilets taken up, rings replaced, toilet reinstalled and calked! Best $300 we ever spent. He had the job done in just over an hour.

But if hubs and son had done it, it would have take all day and 10 trips to the hardware store. But then we are Senior citizens and just about over jobs around the house!!!
