We bought an old home years ago that had all paneling in a 4 bedroom home. We calked all the cracks then painted with aroma free Kilz primer paint. After that we painted over it what color we liked. It really lightened up the house! For the warped boards I sponge painted 3 shades of one color and the warp part did not even show! Hope this helps, we also added wallpaper border at the top of the living and dining area, it looked like all wallpaper with the sponge painting! A friend of ours painted hers red, then flecked it with a feather in black and gold. I never would have chosen those colors but it was beautiful!
