Tips for decorating?

Find something to inspire a color scheme. In a bedroom, choose your comforter and then build your room around it. If it is neutral, choose a decorative pillow or framed print to build a color scheme around. In a living or dining room, find a color scheme from a print, pillow, or magazine photo. Choose neutral colors for large items like sofas. Your tastes will change over time and neutrals are easier to work with. Neutral doesn’t mean just mean beige: think gray, white, or cream. Unless you want a specific color for your walls, wait to choose paint color until you have purchased your large pieces and a few accessories. You can have paint mixed to any color. Choose your fabric—pillows, curtains, --and at least one picture that will hang in your room, then put these together and bring paint chips to lay out to decide on wall color. Don’t just settle for beige walls. Also, don’t try to build a room quickly. Taking your time will build a more interesting room.

I always watch decorating shows and look thru magazines then pick out what I want to try. Paint is easy and easily changed.

Pinterest and houzz are great sources for decor ideas. Once you find your style you can narrow down your search. Good luck

2. Look in your closet. Use the colors of your clothes that make you feel good (if's very it dark, use a sister color that two shades lighter)
3. Buy at least one statement piece that is of good quality and will last a lifetime (and further).

You have probably unconsciously been decorating all your life. Arranging the top of your bureau is actually decorating or styling as they say now. So you must mean tackling a whole room. Which room are you thinking of? Maybe you just moved into your first apt or bought a new house. Whatever it is and wherever it is, you will probably be using furnishings and decorative items you already own Watch HGTV and the different designers. Do you like open concept or separate rooms? What colors do you wear? You would probably like to decorate with them too. What are your hobbies, your favorite type of art? Go to the library where you can browse through lots of different magazines. you will be attracted to one style over others. Most of all, although there are none of us who could not have our houses decorated by a famous person so it looked much better than we have it done . . . do not let that dissuade you about your own taste. . .you have likes and dislikes now. If someone else tells you how to do it, it will not be your look. You have an exciting time ahead. .. enjoy it.
