Cedar does not attract bugs. You can go either way, completely up to your creative instincts!

It might depend on the project or purpose.
We have cedar logs on the wood pile and in an outdoor environment they can and do attract bugs.
For indoor projects -I have had drilled out cedar and birch logs such as these left natural - used for candlestick bases-or pencil holders -no problems noted. The natural acrually would look more natural than sealed.
I have seen where thinner wood slices are used to make a tabletop and they are sealed into place.
