Screening porch- Any ideas are appreciated...

Suggestions for using velcro to screen a porch, there are 5 vinyl vertical posts, about 8 ft apart. I want to avoid using screws, nails, staples (puncturing the vinyl). I have tried machine sewing the velcro to screening while using adhesive velcro strips on the posts. I am wondering if I could adhere the screening to the velcro using silicone. Any ideas are appreciated.

The strength of the hold velcro has needs to be weaker than any kind of glue you use....kind of hard to do really. Have you tried using a ribbon tied around the post and sewing the velcro onto the ribbon?

Did you use a backing between the velcro and the screening when you sewed it on? Where is the vinyl that you don't want to puncture? I can't quite visualize the set up.... Could you post a picture so we could see exactly what you are working with?

be sure to get 'industrial strength' velcro -- not the 'hobby/craft' stuff

Have you considered the screen tight system?

We had ours installed in 2015 -with remodel and addition- to our surprise it’s a wonderful system.

It consists of the regular fiberglass mesh screening stuffed into an edge frame sealed with rope like stretchy spline and has a plastic snaps on Tupperware type sealing strip to cover your raw edge.

We just repaired a panel after a dog excitement accident. It was pretty easy to work with. We just bought replacement screen -tub of the spline and a hand spline tool and the job was completed without much effort. I would say its diy friendly....at least the repair was. It was far easier than a more old-school staple screen and cover with it with wood —system that we had a prior residence.

I would be severly hesitate suggesting the use of velcro. I have a velcro loops on my hammock pillow for attachment to the rope hammock and it has just about disintegrated. It has discolored mildewed with only seasonal summertime exposure has caused it to rot away. Im not sure velcro is made for out door use, expecting the quality of LL Beans velcro be a decent quality. The pillow fabric is fine but not the velcro.

I would suggest contacting the velcro company first and see how its rated for outdoor exposure.
