Good morning, I had the same problem. So whst I did first, I decided to paint them. I washed them down first to remove the grease from coooing and furniture polish. Let them dry for a few days, taped where it was needed, than we painted them an off white. Let me tell you, it brighten the kitchen so nicely, we painted the bathroom cabinets also.
