You can try a chalk or mineral paint. I would use whatever hardware you like, maybe keep to the period of this piece. Looks very 50’s to me.

In addition to painting, adding a stencil is a fun step to kick it up a notch. I have bought many stencils at Michaels. I love adding a little (or a lot depending on my project) color and texture with stencils. They are quick and easy to use; you could do something only on the top drawer for an accent, or on all for a more dramatic effect. I would choose a stencil color that blended my room decor. Best wishes! Please share your end results.

There are tons of paint brands out there. I love Black Dog Salvage and General Finishes personally. The main thing is prepping your piece - make sure it's clean, free from grease and oils. Sand it a bit if it's slick or shiny. Fill in any dings or chips if you wish, then it's ready to paint in your choice of pretty new colors!

I like cup pulls, but you will have to drill another hole for each one. They make it easier to open the drawers and the scratches when you use it over time will be hidden underneath.
