How can I build a short fence from aluminum cans?

I have a small garden area about 100 square feet. In order to keep my small dogs out, I want to build a short fence no more than 3 or 4 whole cans high. I am on a tight budget, but I think it would be a unique way to recycle and it could be done artistically.

This sounds doable If you can figure out a way to hold the cans together. If the area is not very large you could perhaps use some kind of flexible metal bar to screw them to. You then stack them on top of one another and secure from one bar to another to another vertically. The biggest question is how to pm them steady on the ground and how to add weight for sturdiness.

It would be best to stagger the cans one on top of the other like brick work. You could fasten the cans with a piece of some kind of bar or wood vertically and pound a stake into the ground at each corner for support. Just a suggestion. Hope it inspires you to come up with a plan.

      Good luck

Hi Liz, I would Bang Stakes in the ground and thread Cans over them by punching a hole in them, but leaving the last one just popped on top and then nailed in place.......... good luck with your project.........

Punch a hole through the bottom of can (assuming the top already has one) and thread as many cans as you need to reach a post. What I picture would be similar to stringing popcorn on string but only cans on twine or wire. Attach as many rows to posts placed around the perimeter to give you the drape and height you like. This could look cute left with the cans natural or spraypainted.

I have a couple of thoughts - you could string them on a wire tied or wrapped to the fenceposts. Maybe 3 wires. Sort of thread them on like beads either up and down or sideways. Just clean them really well so the dogs don't just want to lick them! lol

You could cut the tops and bottoms off and flatten them. then you could nail them flat onto some cheap wooden or plastic or fence. Or wire them to a cheap wire fence. Just be careful as they can be a bit sharp
