If it is for outside you will need to build it out of weather resistant wood such as pressure treated, or cedar, for example. You will also need to use weather resistant glue, such as Titebond II, or Gorilla Glue. As far as the actual construction goes, just use 2“ x 2” lumber in the corners, and attach the cedar (or whatever wood you are using) horizontally. For the bottom of the planter make sure you leave a space between the boards about 1/4” - 3/8” for drainage. Lastly, install the bottom first so the boards on the side cover the bottom boards...it’s just a better look.
We made raised garden beds last year with cedar fence boards and I personally love how we made them tall so I don't have to bend over while gardening.
